School's Out!!!/ Berklee Nerd Part 2
My first semester at Berklee is officially over! I must say i'm relieved. Well since this site is also to let my family know how i'm doing so here's an up to date update (what a mouth full) on my classes.
Ear Training 4:
Did like horribly for the final dictation man! The teacher was evil and gave us a bunch of atonal and weird rhythmic stuff to dictate! the whole class was stumped. My sight singing went ok got like a 95 for it. Hopefully i'll manage to scrape a full "A" grade for the class overall but its not looking peachy! At least i can say "NO MORE SOLFEGE FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE!"
Harmony 2:
Did pretty good on my exam and with any luck i'll get 100 marks and keep my standing perfect record in that class! We handed our projects yesterday and i went first cause i had to leave. The teacher was dancing to my bossa nova composition in class man! haha...after that he said he wanted to keep the project CD (he usually returns them after letting the class listen) cause he wanted to use it as teaching material for his future classes and told the class not to be intimidated that i had the best project haha!. Looks like thats a comfirm chop plus guarantee "A" Grade man!
Arranging 1:
Exam went ok. Not sure how i did but shd get an "A" for that. Showed my project to my teacher b4 handing it in (its a funk shuffle arrangement of My Funny Valentine)and he said it was one of the best projects of the year and he is going to bring it to the chair of his department as sample of his bests students! He said i shd definately take arranging (aomtemporary writing and production) as a major.
College Writing 2:
Handed in my 2 essays and i'm reallie not sure how i'll do. But my teacher's been recommending me to school papers and other school (emerson college) productions as a writer and said i was the best writer in her class. Hope i get an "A". Which i thinki should cause i spend so much time writing those essays! (I hate writing essays!)
Proficiency (Piano practical exam):
this i really cant believe but here goes, I GOT FULL MARKS!!!! I busted out those scales and arpeggios even if they were the hardest the examiner could give (try playing a B flat arpeggio if u know what i mean). My pieces went well too. Was funny cause after i left the exam room, i stuck around outside the door to hear what they were saying about me. "He was way better than the other kid...(the other kid b4 me was taking a 5th semester exam)"...then i got a shock when the examiner suddenly opened the door to find me outside...i quickly looked away and pretended not to be evesdropping but i think he saw thru me...was so embarrased!
Sight reading (Piano Lab):
I got Full marks for exam and i'm getting an "A" for the class.
Comping (Piano Lab):
This one i'm not sure but i shd get an "A" cause i was the only one who knew what was going on in that class.
Contemporary styles ensemble:
Also don't know how this went but i think i was the only one who had a 100% attendance in that class so i shd be getting an "A"
Principles of Production:
Another one of those toss up in the air classes. I got an "A" in the midterm but not too sure about the final. Funny thing was, the nite b4 the final i was like revising the midterm paper thinking "this is not what is coming out tomorrow but what the heck!" turns out half of the final paper was a repeat of questions from the midterm!....HENG MAN! I thinki did pretty well.
well thats a NERDY update by me and with any luck i'll get a 4.0 (perfect) GPA this semester!
I'm currently in NEW JERSEY! staying over at my roommate's house in his basement! man its kewl cause theres a big entertainment system with xbox and big tv and sound system and a band room down here! His friends here are all pretty kewl too! haha.
Had the best week in Berzerklee last week with the bestest pple here man. Gonna miss u guys like crazy over summer when i'm all alone in the dorms.
Steven Davidson - drummer extrodinare! and roomate for fall: GET A DAMN CELL PHONE! and get jessica to return your balls back to you.
Chris Hermann - I know you're gonna miss kicking my ass but u can skype me and we'll play nerdy music games over internet chat oK...oh yeah if i do get and "A" for ear training i'll remember to buy a bottle of something for you when u get back from germany
Wesley Kelly Kelly (yes his middle and last names are the same) - We'll have to jam more in the fall man. and we're gonna get huge in the gym next semester! keep pumping! Good luck with you transcriptions over summer. Can't wait to hear u shred that thing when ur back (sorry i missed all your recitals)
Holly Lawson - Gonna miss your singing girl. Oh yeah please remind me b4 u come back to practice ur song for your exam haha...hope your flight to scotland was good. Gonna have a WEE bit less fun without u around.
ALL MY FRIENDS IN SINGAPORE - I MISS YOU ALL LIKE CRAZY. I'm so sorry i wont be home in summer but i'll be back in december ok?
MAY CHEONG-u better be in singapore when i'm there blardy hell always pang seh me one. Go France also pang seh i come singapore also like that.

B* - congrats on graduating and ur plan to study music! haha... u better be serious about coming to US (and this goes for the rest of u) to visit aaron and me!

Going to NEW YORK next week with AARON! and i cant wait man! SHOPPING!!!!!i need new shoes and a bunch of summer clothes!. It kinda sux that i have to start school again at the end of the month but at least i'll be well rested! then its back to practicing my butt off....
My goals for next semester:
1) Practice at least 1 hour a day (EVERYDAY)
2) Learn how to improvise better
3) Get another 4.0 GPA (if its 4.0 this semester)
4) eat less chinese food (i'm addicted to general gaos chicken man)
5) Keep going to the gym (stopped 2 weeks prior to exams cause of the stress)
