Berklee Debut

Thursday, April 27, 2006
Ok not quite. But it was my ensemble performance today. Its basically a class where we learn to play in a group and at the end of the course we put up a show. Today we played at the pavillion this outdoor stage in school...the weather was GREAT! and sunny! hehe...the playing was also mostly tight! I took one too many solos though haha...hiro forgot to come in so i took and full extra chorus in summertime! yikes!

We played:
1) Little Sunflower
a bossa tune with a killer drum solo with samba bits added in i like!

2) Summertime
with our own RAGGAE twist haha...

3) The Chicken
Jacko's famous funk/blues song. Got the crowd going with this uptempo one! Think PIano gliss!

PICS!:
Hiro (Hero) on the sax! Playing those ricks(licks)

Me on keys. figuring out what the heck to solo over!

Noel on the guitar.Shredding that thang!

Contemporary Styles Ensemble with Prof Lello Molinari on the bass!

Another shot me me

THE WHOLE ENSEMBLE GROUP SHOT
Noel, Prof Molinari, Kentaro, Me, Dan, Hiro

AFter that i went to see my piano private instructor play....MAN HE WAS KEWL!...

We was playing all this funk fusion stuff on the keys and playing 2 keyboards at once and all....i think i got the kewlest piano teacher on the block....best part is he's soooo veratile...his classical is top notch, he can play real good jazz and hes like the piano department's synth guru! He's gonna be my teacher for next semester too!

My Teacher and the band

Prof Ramsay! WOHOO!

Another one of him shredding those keys!

Registration is a B**CH

Thursday, April 20, 2006
Finally got all my classes for summer and fall term this year. Got so angry with the internet system that i nearly threw my powerbook on the floor!. Theres no bidding for classes here its only a first come first serve slots in class basis. Problem is they let all the upper semester pple go first so i was only allowed to start registration on the 2nd last day. The worst part is that I got placed higher up in my class for some of the modules so i have to take upper semester classes and by the time i got online to register, the classes were either full or at some werid time 9am!!!or the teacher sucked.

Worst part was on the hour i could start, the school server crashed. I tot it was internet connection at my dorm so i ran all the way to school but the server was down there too...then i ran to the opposite end of campus to see the registrars office but they couldnt help me either. I after like 2 hours running round campus, i could finally start registering....haiz i know i'm damn kiasu!

For summer i'm taking:
History of Art 1
History of Western Civilisation 1
Principles of Acoustics
(Jazz) Harmony 3
Traditional Harmony 1
Comping 3
Keyboard Lab: Improvisation
Piano Private Instruction

Fall:
History of Art 2
History of Western Civilisation 2
Arranging 2
(Jazz) Harmony 4
Traditional Counterpoint 1
Conducting 1
Piano Private Instruction
A Cappella Singing (pending audition)

I'm reallie excited cause the a cappella class is a new one. The only problem is i'm not a voice principle and its gonna be hard to convince them to let me into the class. My friend Holly has put in a good word for me with the chair so see how that goes...

Also i'll be buried in the book cause i'm taking sooo many general education modules next 2 sems...at lest i'll be over with them by end of fall!.....

I'm deciding on my major and i think i'll take "Contemporary Writing and Production"...its like an arranging kinda module...stuff i like! hehe...and also i'll dual major in music produoction and engineering if i manage to get in!...so its a 5 year course(but i'll take like 4)

See how everything goes...thanx for your prayers and all....exams are comin soon!

Don't put diesel in your Ferrari

Thursday, April 13, 2006
I AM NOT HAPPY! Today i put diesel in my ferrari and fully expected it to work. Little did i know that my beloved monster failed to work with such rubbish in it.

If you didn't get what i meant plug in this equation:

Ferrari = iMac intel core duo
Petrol(top grade) = Mac OSX 10.4.5
Diesel = Windows XP

Why am i so stupid! And the worst part was i did it fully expecting it to work without backing up my stuff...yeap thats rite, my movies, tv shows, homework, scores, PHOTOS (4 years worth) and my MUSIC! all gone forever! This reallie teaches me a lesson to backup everything and never to trust bill gates again...also when u find something good, dont mess with it...i'm a mac convert and i'll stay that way. never gonna turn back...my fingers are just to darn itchy lar...i didnt even have use for it,...just wanted to do it for fun

UPDATE
as if all the saga wasn't enough, Today i connected my iPod to my laptop to try to salvage what was left of my music. THE COMPUTER WENT TO DELETE MY WHOLE IPOD AUTOMATICALLY!....u know how pissed off i am right now? ARGH! I'm such an idiot

Math Mess

Tuesday, April 04, 2006
I had to take a math proficiency test today after school cause its a pre-requisite for a class i wanna take next semester. I went it thinking was gonn ba e a piece of cake...

Turns out IT WAS A PEICE OF CAKE. If i did it like in sec 3 or 4....my goodness. I was stunned...i totally forgot how to factorise and stuff like that man..lucky it was multiple choice and i was like plugging in the answers into the equation instead of doing it the "right" way...i felt so damn stupid! argh!...maybe i shd take the math course to refresh my brain cause if I go on doing the class i'll prolly spend half my time trying to get the math right! ARGH!...i shd score pretty well though on that test but if it were a written test and not multiple choice. I WOULD FAIL! FOR SURE!

anyhow. i'll post results up here soon.

Got my end of year assignment for arranging. Needa pick a song to arrange. Here's my "Narrowed" down list.

1) Till You come back to me (Stevie Wonder)
2) Don't you worry bout a thing (Stevie Wonder)
3) Sin Wagon (Dixie Chicks)
4) What a wonderful world
5) You don't have to say you love me
6) September (Earth wind and fire)
7) God Bless the Child
8) Neither one of us

yep any suggestions?...needa pick one of those songs arrange for rhythm section (Piano, guitar, bass and drums) and 2 melodic intruments (Sax/horns) and one more comping inst (Strings, keyboard, organ)

HELP!

UPDATE:
Ok so i passed my test with 95% and just as well as i realised that one mistake the minute i walked out of that room....haha at least i topped the class! or at least all the pple who took that test.i cant believed some pple actually failed when all u had to do was plug in answers for all the algebra questions haha. ok enough bragging. back to work!

Singer's Night 2006

Saturday, April 01, 2006
wohoo...singer's night was a blast. And congrats to Holly man!...the only 1st semester student to sing at the Berklee Performance Center that night! and man did she sing! haha...took so many photos this idiot security guard had to come confiscate my camera midway thru her song...how rude!...at least i go it bakc and haha i think i had enough photos anyway!

Best closeup i got..looks like my camera came in handy

DIVA!

Think this is the best group shot of our group man....for once everyone is smiling...

More good news:

I managed to get full marks for harmony. so thats one more 'A' to my list
now its just waiting for my production class grades to come in...i made quite a few mistakes on that paper but the teacehr is marking on a bell curve thank God so hope it all goes well!
